Session 1: Outreach and employability

The session will focus on strategies how best to reach those at risk of social inclusion in highest need for employable skills, how to best enable these groups to training or jobs, relevant success factors including the importance and value of certification and quality labelling for (later) labour market integration and the stakeholders and policy environment needed to build a diverse tech workforce.

Discussion topics:

  • Strategies to best reach those at risk of social exclusion
  • How to best enable these groups for training or jobs (e.g. gamification approaches)
  • Success factors: internships, employer relationships and involvement …
  • The role of certification to ease labour market entry

Session 2: Pathways and connectivity to traditional education and training system

The session will focus on a discussion of the most promising pathways to ICT skills training and jobs, their links to and integration into traditional education and training systems and the role of vendor-based training programmes.

Discussion topics:

  • Elaboration of the role and importance of practical training modules and employer involvement
  • Different delivery models of internships and training apprenticeships
  • Interfaces of inclusive ICT training programmes to and pathways into existing formal (dual / apprenticeship)) education and training systems
  • Necessary changes in traditional and permeability of formal education and training systems

Session 3: Stakeholder engagement, scalability and sustainability

The session will focus on the need for a stronger engagement of specific stakeholders, policy actors and the special role of national industry, employers and different types of associations and best ways to scale.

Discussion topics:

  • Inclusive ICT training as increasingly important recruitment strategy
  • Ways of employer engagement in inclusive ICT training
  • Design and implementation of the practical part of training and internships
  • Strategies for scalability and sustainability; constraints and challenges but also steps to overcome these
